Suicide Squad: Well done Jared Leto!

Superman is dead, Batman seems busy and America doesn’t seem to be getting rid of people trying to destroy it. Add to it the fact that Joker has returned. Whom do you look upto to save the country? Well, for a change let’s choose villains this time. Some freaky, deadly and not so human villains. Amanda Waller in her well laid out plan has all pieces in place for bringing together a task force comprising of super villains to fight the crime. Well, we know this story already, don’t we! So what’s new out there? Well let’s start with DC’s attempt at adding humor to their so called dark movies. I must say the move works well. The witty one liner jokes certainly keep your funny bone tickling. But for me highlight of the film was a fresh take on Joker. Imagine Joker falling in love (no not with the Bat)! Not many would have thought it would be possible to imagine a new joker after Heath Ledger’s immortal act but I must confess that Jared Leto made his presence felt and owned the role. I wish there was more of him in the film but Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn certainly compensated for Joker’s short presence. She was funny, she was freaky and she was awesome! Will Smith’s deadshot was more on emotional side but the actor does full justice to his role. Rest of the cast did not get much screen presence but were noteworthy none the less. Action sequences and back ground music added a lot of flair to the movie. Even the 3D effects were good and were not hazy (a big improvement over BvsS). Choice of villain was certainly a disappointing aspect as she lacked clear motive (conquering humans cannot be a motive all the time). The film becomes slightly more predictable towards the end but barring that part, it’s a fun ride and certainly leaves you at a juncture where you would ask for more of it. I think the criticism has been too harsh and film does well on most of the aspects. Suicide Squad is certainly a good origin story and we would look forward to the sequel. And yeah.. well done Jared Leto!
P.s. Don’t leave your seats too early and wait for the clipping towards the end of end credits.
